A multiple collision between a bus and three cars in Montblanc has left nine injured, two of them seriously. The N-240 road remains closed while the aftermath of the accident is managed.

A serious traffic accident occurred this morning on the N-240, near Montblanc, resulting in nine people injured, two of them with serious injuries. The Sistema d’Emergències Mèdiques (SEM) has confirmed that a man and a woman have been transferred to Hospital Joan XXIII due to their critical condition. Additionally, another man was taken to Hospital Pius de Valls with minor injuries, while six others were discharged at the scene of the incident.

Emergency services received the alert at 11:05 AM and quickly mobilised seven units from the Bombers de la Generalitat along with six units from the SEM. At the accident site, two people were found trapped in one of the vehicles involved, who had to be extricated by rescue teams. Fortunately, there were no more trapped individuals in the other cars involved.

The authorities have indicated that the accident occurred at kilometre 38.6 of the N-240 and has caused significant traffic disruptions not only on this road but also on the AP-2 from l'Espluga de Francolí and on the C-14. Drivers are advised to exercise caution and seek alternative routes while cleaning and recovery operations are underway.

Such accidents are not infrequent; according to historical data, the total number of accidents recorded on this same road has been progressively increasing over the past few years. Compared to a decade ago, when fewer serious incidents were reported annually, today’s figures reflect a worrying increase that demands attention from traffic authorities.

The prolonged closure of the N-240 could significantly affect local and regional traffic for several more hours. Travellers are advised to check mobile apps or official websites for updates on traffic conditions before heading to their destinations.
