This Sunday, more than fifteen museums in Barcelona will open their doors at no cost. A unique opportunity to enjoy culture and art in the city.

The first Sunday of each month has become an unmissable event for culture lovers in Barcelona. This July 5th, more than fifteen museums will offer free entry, allowing citizens and tourists to explore everything from contemporary galleries to historical relics without paying a euro. This initiative aims to promote access to culture and attract a diverse audience.

Among the spaces that will open their doors is the Mies Van der Rohe Pavilion, which will be available for visits from 10 am to 8 pm. This emblematic building is a notable example of the modern movement and attracts both architects and art enthusiasts.

Another highlight is the Picasso Museum, where visitors can appreciate a vast collection of works by the famous Spanish painter. However, it is important to remember that this museum requires prior reservation to guarantee entry, opening its doors between 9 am and 8 pm.

The Maritime Museum, located on Avenida Drassanes, also joins this cultural day with free access from 3 pm to 8 pm. This museum offers a fascinating look at the naval history of Catalonia and its connection to the Mediterranean Sea.

Not only will these museums be available; other cultural spaces like the Ethnological Museum and World Cultures, which opens from 10 am to 7:30 pm, will also participate in this initiative. Additionally, many other places from the Museum of History, such as El Born Centre for Culture and Memory or the Temple of Augustus, will offer free entry throughout the day.

Over the years, this tradition has grown in popularity. Compared to a decade ago, when only a few museums offered free access monthly, today more than fifteen join this initiative. This reflects a growing commitment from cultural institutions to make art and history accessible to all.

Apart from classical and contemporary art, visitors can also enjoy the Natural Science Museum, which will open from 10 am to 8 pm. This space is ideal for families looking to learn about biodiversity and conservation.

However, there are notable exceptions; for example, MACBA only offers free entry on Saturdays between 4 pm and 7:30 pm. Therefore, those wishing to visit it should plan their visit accordingly.

Taking advantage of this first Sunday of the month not only allows for enjoying art at no cost but also exploring different Barcelona neighbourhoods while learning about their rich cultural history. For those interested in participating in this free cultural day, it is recommended to check specific schedules in advance and make reservations where necessary. This way, they can make the most of what Barcelona has to offer.
