From October 13 to 28, the 17th edition of the Munt de Mots festival will feature oral storytelling performances in libraries in Barcelona, Hospitalet de Llobregat, and Gavà. This year's theme is Oral Tradition.
The Gabriel García Márquez Library and eight other facilities from Biblioteques de Barcelona will host performances, lectures, and an exhibition as part of the 17th edition of the Munt de Mots, the Oral Storytelling Festival of Barcelona. The programme runs from October 13 to 28 and brings together storytellers from Catalonia, the Valencian Community, Andalusia, Galicia, Colombia, and Cuba.
The festival kicks off with the theme Oral Tradition and offers over two weeks of activities for all audiences: stories, music, humour, improvisation, lectures, an exhibition, urban itineraries, and participatory proposals. In addition to Barcelona, the event will also take place in Hospitalet de Llobregat and Gavà.
The municipal libraries are a key part of the programme. On Wednesday, October 14 at 5:30 PM, the La Barceloneta - La Fraternitat Library will host De boca en boca, presented by the duo Furofollas, made up of artists from Galicia and Catalonia.
The following day, Thursday October 15, Andalusian storyteller Nono Granero will present Cuando el mapa nos habla at the La Vila Olímpica - Xavier Benguerel Library, also at 5:30 PM. That same day, from 9:30 AM to 1:30 PM, this facility will host the professional day El conte meravellós, featuring Carles Cano and Granero himself as speakers. This activity requires prior registration and is organised by the Munt de Mots Festival, Biblioteques de Barcelona, and the Children's and Youth Literature Documentation Service (SDLIJ).
The Gabriel García Márquez Library will be the venue on Sunday October 18 at 12 PM for Cuentos de la granja, with Cuban storyteller Mirta Portillo. On Wednesday October 21 at 5:30 PM, Manuel Garzón, associated with Valencia and Catalonia, will present L'Homenet verd at the El Carmel - Juan Marsé Library.
On Thursday October 22, there will be a double session at 5:30 PM: Josep Lluís Gallardo will present El vol dels espiadimonis at the Vapor Vell Library, and Rosa Pinyol will offer Tocats de l'ala at the El Bon Pastor - Josefina Castellví Library.
On Saturday October 24 at 11 AM, the El Clot - Josep Benet Library will celebrate the children's storytelling marathon La paraula trobada, led by students from the Atrapa la paraula workshop.
The exhibition Cartografia del conte popular, created by Nono Granero, will be on display at the La Vila Olímpica - Xavier Benguerel Library from October 15 to December 4. The exhibition features visual maps to preserve and transmit oral tradition stories, in collaboration with Ediciones Ekaré. The festival's invited bookstore is La Petita.
Those interested in attending the sessions can check schedules and details on the Biblioteques de Barcelona website. The professional day on the 15th is the only activity that requires prior registration.
