In a significant move to tackle unemployment, the city of Badalona has introduced the Integral Plus program, aimed at encouraging local businesses to hire residents facing employment challenges. This initiative, supported by the Servei d’Ocupació de Catalunya (SOC), offers substantial financial incentives for companies that commit to hiring individuals from the city.

Details of the Integral Plus program

The Integral Plus program allows businesses to receive a monthly subsidy of €690.61 for each new employee hired under a full-time permanent contract. This financial support can extend for up to 18 months, amounting to a total potential aid of €12,430.98 per hired individual. To qualify, candidates must be residents of Badalona and either over 45 years old and unemployed or over 30 years old with long-term unemployment status.

The initiative not only provides economic assistance but also includes tailored training programs lasting between 20 and 30 hours. These training sessions are conducted during work hours and aim to enhance the professional skills of participants, thereby increasing their chances of long-term employment stability.

Cristina Agüera, Badalona’s Deputy Mayor responsible for Economic Promotion, emphasized the importance of this program in bridging the gap between business hiring needs and local talent. She stated, “The Integral Plus program is a very useful tool for connecting companies’ hiring needs with job opportunities for people in our city who have experience and professional capabilities but face difficulties re-entering the job market.” Agüera urged local businesses to take advantage of this opportunity: “We want to call on companies to inform themselves about the advantages of this program. They still have time to benefit from significant economic assistance while contributing to stable employment generation for Badalona residents.”

The Municipal Employment Promotion Service (IMPO) plays a crucial role in facilitating access to the Integral Plus initiative. It offers free advisory services throughout all stages of participation—from verifying eligibility requirements to assisting in selecting suitable candidates based on specific job needs.

This proactive approach aims not only at reducing unemployment rates but also at fostering stronger connections between local businesses and community members seeking work. The deadline for formalizing contracts under this initiative is set for July 1, 2026, providing ample time for interested companies to engage with IMPO.

This initiative comes at a critical time as many cities continue grappling with post-pandemic economic recovery challenges. By incentivizing local hiring practices, Badalona aims not just at reducing unemployment figures but also at enhancing overall community well-being through stable job creation.

Cristina Agüera remarked on the dual benefits: “This is an opportunity not only for our residents but also for businesses looking for skilled workers.”

The success of such programs often hinges on active participation from both employers and potential employees. As Badalona moves forward with its plans under the Integral Plus, it sets an example that could inspire similar initiatives across other regions facing comparable labor market issues.

The IMPO encourages any interested business owners or managers wanting more information about how they can participate in this beneficial scheme to reach out via phone or email during business hours.
