On June 19, 2026, Horta-Guinardó will host a significant event aimed at enhancing job prospects in the health and care sectors. The initiative is part of the district’s Economic Development Plan for 2024-2027 and is organized in collaboration with Barcelona Activa and Vall d’Hebron University Hospital. Local officials, including district councilor Sara Belbeida, will participate to highlight the importance of this sector for employment growth.

Exploring the future of health and care

The event will feature a keynote address by Miquel Domènech, a social psychology professor at UAB and coordinator of the Barcelona Science and Technology Studies Group. His presentation, titled “Health, Care, and Technology: Looking Towards the Future,” will delve into how technology is reshaping health services and care practices. Domènech plans to discuss ethical considerations arising from digitalization while proposing sustainable and equitable future care models.

A roundtable discussion moderated by Georgina Ferri, director of betevé, will follow. This session aims to bring together professionals from various sectors—including education, public administration, and healthcare—to share insights on current challenges and opportunities within the health workforce.

In addition to these discussions, practical activities are planned for attendees seeking employment in health-related fields. These include an informational session about job openings at the Catalan Health Institute (ICS) as well as recruitment events targeting service providers associated with Vall d’Hebron Hospital. Such initiatives are designed to connect local residents with potential employers in cleaning services, access control, hospitality, and more.

The Economic Development Plan for Horta-Guinardó emphasizes collaboration with local economic agents to identify new opportunities within the community. By partnering with Vall d’Hebron Hospital—an essential player in the region’s healthcare landscape—the district aims to foster job creation that benefits its residents.

This event not only addresses immediate employment needs but also seeks to build a sustainable framework for future workforce development in health services. As healthcare continues to evolve rapidly due to technological advancements, initiatives like this are crucial for preparing individuals for emerging roles within this vital sector.
