A necessary boost for municipalities
The Tarragona Provincial Council has announced an injection of 15 million euros aimed at helping the region's municipalities cope with the increased current spending caused by the war in Iran. This measure seeks to mitigate the financial difficulties faced by localities, especially the smaller and depopulated ones.
Each council will receive an additional 10% on what was already allocated under the ImpulsDipta Plan, which has a total budget of 177 million euros for the period 2024-2027. The municipality receiving the least funds will obtain at least 50,000 euros, thus ensuring that even the most vulnerable localities have access to this financial support.
Noemí Llauradó, president of the Provincial Council, has highlighted that this initiative is crucial to alleviate the historical underfunding suffered by many municipalities. The funds can be used for expenses related to personnel, current goods and services, as well as bank interest. The transfer is expected to take place in the autumn, following the approval of a credit modification in the plenary session in April.
Over time, the ImpulsDipta Plan has proven to be a valuable resource for the municipalities of Tarragona. In the years 2024 and 2025, 16.5 million euros have already been allocated, while an additional 20.7 million is expected for the years 2026 and 2027. This means that a total of more than 52 million euros will be mobilised to cover municipal current expenses over four years.
As the international situation continues to affect local economies, such measures are essential to ensure the financial and operational stability of municipalities. The political will behind the ImpulsDipta Plan reflects a clear commitment from the provincial government towards its municipalities, always seeking to prioritise those with the greatest needs.
