The Institut d’Estudis Fotogràfics de Catalunya (IEFC) has announced its provisional move to the former Escola del Carme, located in the Sants neighbourhood, starting in September 2027. This move comes while renovations are taking place at its current headquarters, the Escuela Industrial site, which are expected to be completed in 2031. The decision ensures the educational continuity of the centre and responds to the commitment of the Barcelona City Council to the pedagogical use of the building.

During the 2026-2027 academic year, the IEFC will maintain its usual activities at the Escuela Industrial. However, during the summer of 2027, a planned move will take place to the former Escola del Carme to start the following academic year under optimal conditions. This space ceased to function as a school in 2023, but since then it has been allocated for educational uses by the City Council.
The temporary location will allow the IEFC to continue offering its training programmes without interruptions. The Barcelona council has reaffirmed its commitment to education and training linked to the building, ensuring that this change will not negatively affect students or teaching staff.
“This move is an opportunity to continue guaranteeing quality education while we improve our facilities,” commented a spokesperson for the IEFC.
Once the renovations at the Escuela Industrial are completed, which are scheduled to finish in 2031, the institute will return to a new building tailored to its academic and functional needs. Although it will not necessarily be the same space it currently occupies, it is expected to meet the required standards for providing modern and efficient teaching.
