A green breath in the heart of Mataró
The city of Mataró has taken an important step towards sustainability and community well-being with the recent inauguration of a new green area of 3,100 square meters. This landscaped space, located on Avinguda del Maresme, is part of the urbanization process of the Maresme-Toló sector, which aims to transform areas previously dedicated to commerce and industry into more friendly environments for residents.
The new park is strategically located next to important roads such as the intersection of Juan Josep Navarro, Toló, and Camí Ral streets. Previously, this site housed a Prades car dealership. Now, in addition to the green area, residential blocks have been built that include 30% affordable housing, as well as spaces designated for tertiary uses. This transformation not only enhances urban aesthetics but also provides residents with direct access to recreational areas.
The park's design includes 420 shrub and perennial plants, all adapted to the Mediterranean climate, ensuring their long-term sustainability. Additionally, an efficient irrigation system has been implemented, and modern urban furniture has been installed for everyone's enjoyment. A designated children's play area is also part of the project, ensuring that families have a safe place to enjoy.
The total investment to carry out this landscaping has been €11,749.26, a figure that reflects the City Council's commitment to improving the quality of life in Mataró. Such initiatives are fundamental to fostering greater social and environmental integration within the urban fabric.
As Mataró continues its urban renewal process, it is essential to address the challenges related to population growth and the urgent need for green spaces. The creation of this new landscaped area is just one part of the broader effort to revitalize historically industrial and commercial areas for both economic and social benefit.
