A congress that sets the course for 2027
El Masnou became the epicentre of local politics this weekend, hosting the annual Regional Congress of Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya (ERC) in Maresme. Nearly a hundred members gathered to assess the achievements of the past year and outline strategies for the upcoming municipal elections scheduled for 2027.
During the day, attendees showed unanimous support for the reports presented by key figures of the party. Marc Almendro, regional president and mayor of Alella, presented a detailed management report that was well received by those present. Likewise, Xavier Gatius, secretary of Finance, presented a budget for 2026 that will lay the economic foundations ahead of the crucial electoral year.
One of the most notable decisions of the congress was the election of Francesc Gil, a member originally from Pineda de Mar, as the new Conseller Nacional. This appointment fills an important vacancy and reflects the party's intention to maintain a strong connection between its local bases and the highest decision-making body. In his inaugural speech, Gil emphasised the importance of territorial roots and his commitment to being an effective bridge between the members of Maresme and the Consell Nacional.
With the incorporation of Francesc Gil, ERC ensures robust representation in its national structure. Alongside him, Mariona Pasqual, from Argentona, and Lluís Llovet, representative of Canet de Mar, complete a trio that promises to bring the concerns and needs of Maresme to higher instances within the party.
As the municipal elections approach, ERC in Maresme seems more prepared than ever. The combination of experience and renewal within its ranks could be key to facing the challenges ahead.
