Significant investment to revitalise the city
The Sant Joan Despí City Council has announced an investment of €4.3 million aimed at the rehabilitation of buildings constructed before 1 January 1986. This project seeks not only to enhance the aesthetics and functionality of the homes but also to promote a more sustainable and accessible environment for all residents.
The initiative, which has already been presented to property owner communities through a public event, will focus on properties over 40 years old. The management of the programme will be handled by the municipal company Adsa, which will coordinate the works and ensure compliance with established standards.
A crucial part of the funding comes from the neighbourhood plan implemented by the Government of Catalonia, allowing communities to access significant public aid. These grants will cover up to 70% of the total cost of the works, thus facilitating active participation from property owners in the process.
Three main areas will be prioritised in this programme: accessibility, habitability, and energy efficiency. These improvements will not only benefit current residents but also contribute to local economic dynamism by encouraging investment in the real estate sector.
The City Council has expressed its intention to open the call for these grants before the start of summer. “Municipal aid is not only a direct benefit for the communities and their neighbours; it also has a positive impact on local economic development,” official sources stated. The administration emphasises that improving the housing stock is key to halting urban degradation and promoting more responsible energy consumption.
