Starting in December, work will begin on Pau Alsina Street, which will become a shared space. The reform aims to prioritise pedestrians and improve accessibility.
The works on Pau Alsina Street, located in the Camp d’en Grassot and Gràcia Nova neighbourhood, will commence in December 2026 with a budget of approximately 1.25 million euros. This project aims to transform a section between Travessera de Gràcia and Carrer de Romans into a more accessible and safer pedestrian route.
Significant improvements for pedestrians
The first phase of the project will last seven months and aims to facilitate walking, especially in an area where spaces are limited. The First Deputy Mayor and district councillor, Laia Bonet, has stated that this transformation will allow residents to walk with greater peace of mind and safety. “It is essential to prioritise pedestrian passage in narrow areas like this,” Bonet emphasised.
Alignment with urban pacification
Furthermore, the works are aligned with the municipal strategy to pacify the streets of the neighbourhood. This new design is expected to better integrate the existing urban space, connecting Plaça d’en Joanic with the Baix Guinardó neighbourhood. The reform will also include improvements to lighting and street furniture.
Future plans to continue the transformation
Although this first phase is crucial, there are plans to extend the reforms to the section between Carrer de Romans and Pi i Margall. While there is no defined timeline for these future works yet, it is expected that they will continue to enhance the quality of the urban environment. In this second section, there are plans to widen the sidewalks to 0.75 metres, while maintaining enough space for parking and services.
