The director of the Penedès Tourist Promotion Consortium advocates wine tourism as a way to get to know the region. The Catalonia Wine Routes Network brings together nine itineraries that will be presented in Madrid.
According to Onda Cero following a special programme broadcast from the VINSEUM in Vilafranca del Penedès, Núria Sala, director of the Penedès Tourist Promotion Consortium, proposed travelling through the region as a nearby alternative. Sala is also the technical manager of the Catalonia Wine Routes Network, which will be presented in Madrid in a week.
The network groups together nine wine tourism itineraries that aim to grow together. One of them is the Penedès Wine Route, designed to explore the territory through its landscapes, culture, and winemaking tradition. Sala highlighted that the routes offer experiences almost all year round, and that the agents of each itinerary take great care in their proposals.
This is the opportunity to rediscover Catalonia by discovering these values that represent us
For the director, wine tourism goes beyond tasting. The landscape is part of the experience, and in Penedès the journey "plays with contrasts" and is open to all types of audiences. Sala summed it up in one phrase: "Landscape is wine tourism".
The region also has a cultural offering. Notably, the exhibition 'Penedès through Gaudí's Eyes' explains the architect's relationship with the area and his father's trade as a coppersmith. Additionally, the Most Festival of cinema brings the world of advertising closer to any visitor.
In the business sector, wineries have adaptable spaces for corporate meetings. There are proposals that combine wine, wellness, and physical activity, under the concept of "winefulness", as well as cycling routes, kayaking descents, and hiking.
Let us not be afraid to travel close to home
Sala encouraged listeners to include these experiences in their plans and defined Penedès as "the zero kilometre of wine tourism in Catalonia". The nine wine routes of Catalonia are relatively close to each other, making it easy to combine them in one getaway. The proposal was made in collaboration with the Government of Catalonia.
