Pablo Casado has been out of the spotlight for years, but the question about his personal life continues to generate searches. The short answer: he is still married to the same woman as always, Isabel Torres Orts, and all indications are that they have no intention of changing that. Isabel Torres Orts is a psychologist born in Elche, Alicante, who graduated from the Autonomous University of Madrid, where she met Pablo Casado during their university years. She studied Psychopedagogy, while he studied Law and Business Administration. They met in 2002 at a College Major party, as good romances do that last for decades.
Their connection was instantaneous, and since then they have not separated. The couple walked down the aisle on June 20, 2009, at the Basilica of Santa Maria in Elche. The ceremony was attended by the top brass of the Popular Party at the time, with José María Aznar, Ana Botella, and Esperanza Aguirre as the most notable guests. Not exactly a discreet guest list, although the bride has always preferred the exact opposite.
Isabel defines herself as a psychologist, psychopedagogue, and mother, and works as a counsellor at a school in Madrid. Of all the candidates to make La Moncloa their home, she has always been the most discreet: she has rarely been seen alongside her husband at rallies, and when she did, it was in the most reserved way possible.
However, behind that discretion lies much more than meets the eye.
The granddaughter of the king of sweets who advises better than any consultant
Isabel Torres is not just the wife of a former politician. She is the granddaughter of businessman Luis Torres Fenoll, also known as "The King of Sweets," who founded the company Damel in Elche, responsible for memorable products such as Cheiw gum, palotes, Snip cream candies, and the legendary Pectol balsamic candies. In other words, Isabel grew up among sweets and four-star hotels. Not exactly a childhood of hardship.
But beyond her business lineage, those who know her say she has a special sense that allows her to read current events well, anticipate what may happen, and that made her one of Pablo Casado's great unofficial advisors during his political career. She has never wanted the spotlight to be on her.
Casado himself, in one of the few times he spoke about his personal life, was quite explicit about it. "The best thing about her is everything. She is an extraordinary person. That's why I married her. She is much better than me. Clearly, I came out on top... I think she is very beautiful, very smart, a very good mother, a very good wife, a very good professional," he declared. You don't have to be very perceptive to read between the lines: she knows perfectly well what she has.
Two children and a birth that changed everything
The couple has two children, Paloma and Pablo. However, the birth of their youngest was one of those moments that marks a family forever. Pablo came into the world after 25 weeks of gestation and weighing only 700 grams. The politician from Palencia considers it "a miracle" that he survived. To give thanks for what happened, Pablo and Isabel walked the Camino de Santiago weeks after the birth.
In fact, the experience brought them so close that the couple made the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela twice: first when Isabel recovered, and then with the little one in 2021. Not a bad way to show gratitude.
A deliberately low profile
Since Casado stepped down as president of the PP in April 2022, the couple has built a sort of bubble of normalcy that seems almost exotic given their background. Both Pablo Casado and Isabel Torres have disappeared from the media fray. The former PP president has not posted content on his social media since April 2022, when he delivered his last speech. The psychologist, for her part, has her Instagram account closed, and only 450 people have access to her posts.
However, life has not stopped. After years in a spacious flat in central Madrid, in 2023 the family moved to a large detached house on the outskirts of the capital that they bought and renovated before settling in. The leap from the Salamanca neighbourhood to the outskirts is also a symbolic leap: that of someone who has decided they prefer their own garden to the showcase.
In addition to their new family home, Pablo has immersed himself in his work in the private sector, with frequent trips to the United States, Israel, and Latin America, and has joined as an advisor to several investment and consulting firms. Meanwhile, Isabel continues to work as a counsellor at a school in the northern part of the capital. Each with their routines, both are distanced from the limelight.
The public reappearance that confirmed everything
If anyone had any doubts about the state of their relationship, April 2024 cleared it up without the need for statements. Pablo Casado reappeared at the presentation of the digital newspaper Artículo 14 in Madrid, accompanied by his wife, Isabel Torres. True to her style, she opted for an outfit in neutral and sober tones. Their first joint appearance in two years, and the image spoke for itself.
It was the first public image of both in a long time, reinforcing their bond. Since 2009, they remain as in love as on the first day and continue to stay away from the media spotlight.
Family as a life project
What Pablo Casado has done after politics is not just reinvent himself professionally. It is, above all, prioritising what was previously sidelined due to the schedules and demands of the position. Since leaving politics, he has focused on his family, with his wife and two children as his main pillar and priority, and he can be seen from time to time in his native Palencia, in Elche, his wife's homeland, or in Navas del Marqués, the Ávila town where he has a lovely house as a second residence.
The story of Pablo Casado and Isabel Torres is, in the end, quite a bit more boring than many expected to find when typing the question. They have been together for over twenty years, they met at a university party, married in Elche with Aznar as a guest, had two children, one arrived with a scare, walked the Camino de Santiago to thank fate, and today live in a detached house on the outskirts of Madrid with a closed Instagram account. The most radical stability in a sector where stability is in short supply.
