A Memorable Day for the Castellers
This Sunday, El Vendrell was the stage for an unforgettable day in the world of castells, where the most prominent colles gathered to showcase their skill and passion. The Diada of the champion colles of the Concurs de Castells left a mark as it witnessed the first extra range of the season, a milestone that heralds the start of a summer full of emotions.
The Castellers de Vilafranca, known as Los Verds, were the ones to kick off the day with an impressive 3d9 amb folre, setting the tone for what was to come. With flawless execution, they managed to successfully complete this castell for the fourth time this season. However, their greatest achievement came in the second round with the 4d9 amb folre i agulla, which was not only the first extra range of the year but also the earliest recorded so far.
Throughout the event, Los Verds continued to shine by completing another 4d9 amb folre, closing their performance with a spectacular pilar of 8 amb folre i manilles. This final act was celebrated with cheers and applause from the audience present.
Not only did Los Verds receive applause; the Colla Vella dels Xiquets de Valls, although facing some challenges, managed to complete a 3d9 amb folre. Despite experiencing a tremor during its construction, they successfully finished their performance. In their attempt to achieve the first extra range of the year with a 5d9 amb folre, the structure did not hold in the upper levels, but this did not overshadow their effort or dedication.
Meanwhile, the hosts, els Nens del Vendrell, also made their mark by successfully completing a solid 4d8. Although they faced difficulties with the 2d7, where the tower fell before completing the load, they elegantly closed with a beautiful 5d7.
As the afternoon progressed and after more than two hours filled with excitement and adrenaline, all participating colles gathered to perform joint pillars. This moment symbolised not only the healthy competition among them but also a collective celebration of the art and tradition that the castells represent.
Despite the notable absence this year of the Colla Joves Xiquets de Valls due to later commitments in Selva del Camp, the event maintained its festive and competitive essence. The Diada concluded, leaving all attendees eager for what this season full of castells will bring.
