A scandal shaking the railway sector
The recent scandal related to the falsification of documents by Renfe train drivers has raised alarms in the Parliament of Catalonia. At least a dozen workers are involved in a case that has generated deep discontent within the group, further affecting the already tarnished image of the railway service in the region.
The political group Junts has taken the initiative and presented a series of questions to the Government, led by Salvador Illa, to clarify the facts. Deputy Judit Toronjo has been the main voice in this matter, questioning whether the Executive had prior knowledge of these irregularities and what measures have been implemented or are planned to address this situation.
According to recent reports, around thirty employees used the same medical certificate to justify work absences, allowing them to enjoy days off without valid justification. This type of behaviour is not only ethically questionable but also calls into question the internal management and controls established by Renfe.
The news has caused a great uproar among the train drivers, who feel that these acts further damage their reputation in the public eye. Many consider such frauds unacceptable and demand a strong response from both the Government and Renfe to restore trust in the sector.
Junts is also interested in knowing whether the Government has plans to urge Renfe to open an investigation into this matter. The political party criticises that until now the operator has chosen to remain silent and not act firmly in the face of these incidents, which could be interpreted as a lack of commitment to transparency and work ethics.
As progress is made towards the creation of a new mixed company to manage Rodalies de Catalunya, Junts demands guarantees from the Government on how similar situations will be prevented in the future. The concern lies in ensuring that shameful practices like those reported do not happen again under any circumstances.
