A new horizon for justice in Tarragona
This Thursday, Tarragona marked a significant milestone in its judicial history with the commencement of construction on the long-awaited Justice Forum. This ambitious project, which will consolidate eight judicial offices into a single building, is designed to transform and modernise the public justice service in the city and its surrounding area.
The total investment allocated to this project amounts to 94.2 million euros, reflecting the regional government's commitment to improving judicial infrastructure. The works are expected to be completed in the last quarter of 2028, allowing the building to become operational from the year 2029.
During the inaugural ceremony, the Minister of Justice, Ramon Espadaler, emphasised the historical importance of the project by stating that it “addresses a historical debt with Tarragona.” Espadaler also stressed that both legislative reforms and investments in adequate infrastructure are necessary to achieve an agile and efficient judicial service.
The mayor, Rubén Viñuales, did not hold back in describing this day as “historic,” highlighting that Tarragona will finally have a dignified and efficient headquarters. “This facility is a long-awaited demand,” said Viñuales, who also underscored the importance of the new building in raising the standards of local judicial service.
The design of the Forum includes a plot of over 9,100 square metres, where a building with a ground floor plus five floors will be erected, totalling approximately 30,069.94 square metres. Additionally, it will feature an underground area designated for various complementary facilities.
The construction will be carried out in two well-defined phases. The first phase will focus on earthworks and the structural installation necessary to lay the foundation for this large project. This stage has an estimated duration of about 15 months. The second phase, which is expected to be awarded before the end of 2026, will handle the architectural design and internal installations.
