The Mossos d'Esquadra have arrested a 17-year-old in Sant Sadurní d'Anoia for his alleged involvement in the Blocus channels used to coordinate the riots on October 24.
The investigation into the looting on October 24 in Barcelona has achieved its first arrest outside the capital. The Mossos d'Esquadra detained a 17-year-old overnight in Sant Sadurní d'Anoia (Alt Penedès), allegedly linked to the organisation of these acts.
According to the investigation, the detainee was part of an instant messaging group associated with Blocus that was used to organise looting, public disorder, and incitement to violence against police officers. The agents claim he spread the access link to the group and actively participated in the conversations.
Furthermore, he allegedly provided instructions on what materials to bring, how to avoid detection, and self-protection guidelines. He is also said to have encouraged other participants to join in the violent actions and proposed potential targets for looting.
On the same Thursday, the Mossos arrested another minor in Bellmunt d'Urgell (Noguera), who is attributed with creating and managing the Blocus channels in the Lleida region. The investigation remains open, and according to the police, further arrests are not ruled out.
The president of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa, stated on his social media that the Govern will continue to act "with determination" to ensure that those who commit a crime face the consequences.
"We were very clear: there will be no impunity for the acts of violence and vandalism that occurred on October 24 in Barcelona."
For residents of the metropolitan area and Penedès, the case indicates that investigations into the disturbances are still active and that those responsible for spreading the messages can be located even if they operate from outside the capital.
