A 17-year-old has been arrested in Sant Sadurní d'Anoia for his alleged connection to the communication channels of the Blocus movement. According to the Mossos d'Esquadra, looting of shops and attacks against security forces were organised through these channels.
The investigation identifies the arrested individual as responsible for disseminating links to messaging groups and providing instructions on the materials participants should carry. He is also said to have suggested specific establishments to loot. He is linked to the disturbances in Barcelona on October 24.
Hours earlier, a 16-year-old had been arrested in Bellmunt d'Urgell (Lleida). Officers consider him the creator and administrator of the Blocus channels in the area, from which he incited looting of shops and attacks on the police in that locality.
Both arrests add to the 133 detained for the disturbances on October 24, bringing the total number of people arrested in connection with the looting to 135.
The investigated groups included guidelines for assaulting shops without being identified and for using violence against officers. The police state that the aim was to provoke new disturbances in Lleida on Saturday, October 31, which is why surveillance has been intensified in the city ahead of that call.
The chief commissioner of the Mossos, Sílvia Catà, has explained that the force has requested the Intelligence Centre against Terrorism and Organised Crime (CITCO) to block the groups used to incite new episodes of violence.
The Mossos are maintaining several lines of investigation to identify those who promoted and coordinated the disturbances via the internet and messaging applications. They do not rule out new arrests in the coming days.
