The victim, a doctor from CAP Torelló, was attacked by an unknown assailant with a knife in the Sant Fortià area. He remains in hospital in Vic and is now out of danger.

A middle-aged man, a doctor from CAP Torelló, was seriously injured on Tuesday, October 13, after being stabbed in the stomach in broad daylight in the Sant Fortià area of Torelló (Osona). The Mossos d'Esquadra are investigating the violent assault, which occurred shortly before noon, according to sources close to the case.

The assailant, an unknown individual, approached the victim and inflicted a penetrating wound with a knife. The victim did not see the weapon, which the Mossos have yet to determine whether it was a knife or another similar tool, such as a screwdriver, but it pierced his abdomen. The man initially felt a strong blow, thinking he had been struck with an object, but upon seeing that he was bleeding, he called for help at 112.

Emergency medical personnel from the Sistema d'Emergències Mèdiques (SEM) attended to him on the scene, stabilised him, and transported him to the hospital in Vic, where he remains hospitalised. Although there were initial fears for his life, medical sources indicate that he is now out of danger. He underwent emergency surgery, and there was consideration for an urgent transfer to Barcelona, but he was ultimately stabilised at the same facility in Osona.

The swift action of the SEM medical personnel and the knowledge of the victim himself, who is a doctor at the CAP in the municipality, were crucial for his favourable recovery, according to the same sources.

The Mossos d'Esquadra are investigating the events with agents from the Unitat d'Investigació of the Osona police station, awaiting the opportunity to take a statement from the victim when he recovers. For now, while all lines of investigation are open, the main hypothesis is that of a violent robbery, without ruling out the possibility of a random attack or one linked to the man's work, which will need to be investigated to clarify the motive.

The assaulted man was walking down the street with his partner, according to sources familiar with the investigation. He has only recently started working at the CAP in this municipality of Osona.

This latest serious incident involving knives is yet another reported in Catalonia in recent hours, following a heated weekend that also saw several incidents involving firearms. The most serious occurred early Monday morning in Nou Barris, Barcelona, where a man died after being stabbed by a group of individuals allegedly linked to Latin gangs, and several gang members have already been arrested.

In Terrassa, a knife fight in the Ca n'Anglada neighbourhood resulted in three police officers being injured during the arrest of those involved, who even attacked the officers with bites. In Girona, the same night, a man was critically injured after being stabbed in the neck during a fight in a pub, while hours later, another man was seriously injured in a new stabbing in the Devesa neighbourhood.

Additionally, four shootings have also been reported in recent hours: in Maspujols, Badalona, Figueres, and in the Mina neighbourhood of Sant Adrià de Besòs, where a man arrived injured with a gunshot wound to the arm at the CAP after being shot in the street.
