The National Police have arrested a man from Córdoba in Badalona after discovering he was transporting 225.5 kilos of cocaine in his vehicle. The arrest took place on June 9 during a joint operation between the Local Police Station of Sant Adrià de Besòs and the Provincial Brigade of Judicial Police of Barcelona, which had been alerted by French authorities about the suspect's car.
Police operation and discovery of the narcotic
The incident began when officers noticed a car driving erratically in the Gorg-Progrès neighbourhood. Its unusual behaviour, such as lane changes without signalling and an abnormally low speed, raised the officers' suspicions. After checking the vehicle's registration, they confirmed that there was an active request from French authorities for discreet surveillance of it.
With this information, an undercover follow-up was organised until the driver was stopped in a safe area. Upon intercepting the vehicle, the officers found that it lacked insurance and had not passed the ITV inspection. The driver attempted to escape but was quickly subdued by the police.
In a preliminary inspection of the car, two sports bags filled with packages marked with the F-1 logo were found, indicating they contained cocaine. However, the most significant discovery occurred during a more thorough search: the officers uncovered a hidden compartment in the back of the vehicle with an almost imperceptible hydraulic system. This compartment concealed another two sports bags filled with the same type of packages.
In total, 168 packages were seized, all containing cocaine with a combined weight exceeding 225 kilos. The detainee was brought before the court, and the judge ordered his provisional imprisonment as a presumed author of a crime against public health.
This case highlights not only the effectiveness of coordinated work between different police forces but also the ongoing fight against drug trafficking in Spain. Authorities have intensified their efforts to dismantle networks dedicated to international drug trafficking, especially those linked to criminal organisations operating from other European countries.
