The Mossos d'Esquadra have arrested three people for the fatal assault on a man early Monday morning in the Barcelona district of Nou Barris. The investigation is ongoing and more suspects are being sought.

The assault occurred on Romaní street, just a few meters from the Roquetes metro station, in the Nou Barris district of Barcelona. The victim, a man in his fifties, was beaten and also attacked with a knife, according to police sources.

The Mossos d'Esquadra arrested three individuals on Tuesday who are allegedly linked to the incident. Their identification was made possible thanks to testimonies from several neighbours and the area's surveillance cameras. However, witnesses describe a group of between six and eight attackers, so the Catalan police are continuing their search for more suspects.

The investigation is working with several hypotheses. One of them is revenge, as the attackers allegedly targeted the victim while he was alone. The other main line points to a conflict between youth gangs, a possibility that the Mossos do not rule out and which aligns with the presence of these violent groups in Nou Barris, one of the districts of Barcelona with the highest youth gang activity. The Catalan police have a specific plan against these groups.

Although initially some witnesses referred to the victim as a young boy, he has ultimately been identified as a middle-aged person. The arrested individuals may be part of a youth gang, a detail that investigators are trying to confirm.

"Witnesses speak of a group of between eight and six people who attacked a man in the middle of the street"

The Mossos continue to gather evidence and do not rule out further arrests in the coming hours. The case has raised concerns among local residents, who are calling for more police presence in the neighbourhood.
