Two thieves on a stolen motorcycle assaulted three victims on Saturday night in Sarrià-Sant Gervasi. In the last attack, around four in the morning, they threatened a group of teenagers with a gun and a baton.
The Investigation Unit of the Mossos d'Esquadra in Sarrià-Sant Gervasi has opened an investigation to locate the two perpetrators of three violent robberies committed on Saturday night in the district. The assailants acted aboard a motorcycle reported as stolen, a fact that has allowed agents to link the three incidents.
The first assault occurred around 10:20 PM on Escoles Pies street. The two individuals attempted to rob a citizen, but upon seeing that he was not cooperating, they gave up and left. Shortly after, they moved to Sant Cugat, where they committed a second robbery, taking a mobile phone.
The most violent episode occurred just before four in the morning, at the corner of Bertrand i Serra and Torras i Pujalt streets, in the Sant Gervasi-la Bonanova neighbourhood. There, five friends, three sitting on a curb and two on a Bicing, were approached by a motorcycle with two occupants.
According to the account of one of the victims, one of the robbers began to insult them and demanded their shoes and phones. When they refused, the accomplice got off the vehicle and pulled out a baton, while the driver moved aside his jacket to reveal the handle of a gun.
“A motorcycle with two people stopped next to us, and one of them started insulting us and asking us to give him our shoes and phones.”
The young people refused to hand over their belongings, and the assailants turned violent with one of them, beating and strangling him. The gun was pointed at one of the teenagers' heads, according to the same testimony. Eventually, the victims gave in: one was stripped of all his clothes and was left in his underwear, while the others lost their trousers, shoes, and phones. The robbers also demanded the iCloud code for the iPhone to empty it and sell it as new.
The thieves fled with the loot, and the young people were able to call the police thanks to the help of a woman who got out of a taxi. They were wearing balaclavas, spoke Spanish, and had dark eyes and fair skin, according to the description provided to the agents.
The police are continuing the investigation to locate the perpetrators, who have not yet been identified. The Mossos indicate that this type of criminal exploits the major festivals in affluent neighbourhoods of Barcelona to target younger individuals, who during these days are allowed to stay out later.
The father of one of the victims lamented the impunity with which the robbers operate and linked the events to the celebration of the Sarrià festival. Another parent criticized the current security and prevention policy as “not working” and called for more stringent measures to protect teenagers.
The three cases are being investigated as robberies with violence and intimidation. Authorities recommend that residents exercise extreme caution in the less illuminated areas of the district and not resist during an armed assault.
