The Mossos d'Esquadra arrested two men aged 41 and 17 on Monday after stealing 134 kilos of copper from the tracks of the new Sagrera station. They were planning to sell the loot for €1,246 at a nearby scrapyard.

Plainclothes officers from the Mossos d'Esquadra station in Sant Andreu received a tip-off from a witness reporting a theft on the train tracks of the new Sagrera station, located between the districts of Sant Andreu and Sant Martí, on Avenida de la Meridiana. The man explained to the police that he had seen two hooded individuals jumping over the fence of the tracks.

The thieves managed to collect a total of 134 kilos of copper, which they placed in bags they had hidden in the area. As the officers were familiar with the surroundings, they headed directly to a nearby scrapyard, suspecting that the perpetrators would go there to sell the material.

Indeed, in the establishment, they found two individuals matching the physical description provided by the witness. The Catalan police confirmed that they intended to sell the stolen copper for a total value of €1,246.

In light of the events, the officers arrested the two thieves, aged 41 and 17, accused of being the alleged perpetrators of a theft of copper by force. The minor had an outstanding arrest warrant for a robbery with force, according to police sources. It is unknown whether there is any relation between the two.

The adult, who has several prior convictions, was brought before a judge this Thursday 8 October. The investigation remains open, and further arrests related to the theft of cabling in the area are not ruled out.
