The community of Lleida is moved by the news of the death of Francesc Perera Dalmau, a businessman in the automotive sector who left a millionaire inheritance valued between 13 and 14 million euros to the Little Sisters of the Poor. This altruistic act, carried out by a man who left no descendants, has been interpreted as a profound gratitude towards the congregation that cared for him during his childhood.
Francesc Perera, who passed away on January 12 due to aggressive pancreatic cancer, had taken over the management of Automotor shortly before his death. Daniel Barios Seró, the current manager and administrator of the company, highlighted the human and supportive nature of the businessman. “Francesc had a very big human side; another would not have done this,” Barios commented in statements to 3Cat.
The Little Sisters of the Poor have been present in Lleida for over 150 years, dedicating themselves to providing support and companionship to vulnerable elderly people. Until just over a decade ago, they managed a retirement home that bears their name. This legacy is now reinforced by the inheritance left by Perera, which will allow them to continue their charitable work in the region.
The employees of Automotor have also expressed their admiration for the late owner's gesture. Josep Ramon Vidal Pérez, head of the workshop and with 28 years in the company, described Francesc as “a person with a big heart.” The news has generated a reflective atmosphere among those who knew the businessman and worked alongside him.
As the Little Sisters of the Poor begin the process of managing this significant inheritance, it is expected that they will smoothly become the new owners of both Automotor and the rest of the estate left by Francesc Perera Dalmau.
