A case that shocks society
The judicial system of Catalunya is facing one of the most disturbing child abuse cases in years. A 42-year-old man and a 43-year-old woman have been imprisoned after being accused of mistreating and sexually assaulting their child, a baby just six weeks old. The decision was upheld by the court specialised in violence against children, which dismissed the couple's appeal to regain their freedom.
The situation of the infant came to light thanks to the Vall d’Hebron Hospital, where the anti-abuse protocol was activated after doctors detected serious injuries in the baby. Among the injuries found were a femur fracture and anal fissures, which led healthcare professionals to alert the relevant authorities. The Mossos d’Esquadra arrested the parents on March 18, two days after they were taken into custody.
The prosecutor in charge of the case has requested a detailed reconstruction of all the movements made by the couple since the birth of the baby. There is a desire to clarify who they met with and what medical attention the minor received during visits to various hospitals, including emergency services at facilities such as the Hospital del Mar and Sant Joan de Déu. This interest arises due to the unusually high number of medical consultations made by the parents, which has raised suspicions about their intentions.
Prison conditions have also made the news; while the father remains incarcerated in Brians 1, where he recently suffered an assault by other inmates, the mother is isolated in Wad-ras, a women's prison in Barcelona. This separation reflects not only the severity of the case but also the inherent tensions within the prison environment.
