The Santa Coloma City Council has announced an ambitious plan to reinforce cleaning and public safety during the summer months, aiming to improve coexistence in the city. The mayor, Mireia González, presented this Friday the ‘Summer Plan 2026’, which seeks to adapt municipal services to the needs of a population that increases its use of public space during this time of year.
Reinforcement in cleaning and security
With the arrival of warm weather, the council has decided to double its cleaning efforts, increasing the number of work teams until October. This increase will particularly focus on weekends, coinciding with neighbourhood festivities, where a higher influx of citizens is expected. Additionally, more frequent interior cleanings will be carried out in containers, prioritising those designated for organic waste and other refuse. A new truck will also join the service to facilitate the collection of old furniture and other items.
Regarding security, the City Council will implement a specific plan until September 15 that prioritises community policing. This flexible model will allow resources to be adapted to the real needs of the moment. The Rapid Support and Intervention Unit (USIR) will extend its hours to provide greater coverage during evenings and nights.
The plan also includes preventive measures against forest fires. Intensive tasks such as brush clearing and removal of dry vegetation will be carried out, as well as pruning or felling of trees in poor condition. Collaboration with entities such as the Forest Defence Group 301 and the Firefighters will be crucial to increase surveillance before and after key events like the Sant Joan festivities.
On another note, urban pest control has been improved thanks to a new contract that allows for a more agile response to both municipal and citizen reports. The updated list includes more public spaces where actions will be taken against problematic species such as fleas, bedbugs, or ticks.
Mireia González emphasised that “Santa Coloma does not close for holidays,” but transforms its activities to ensure a safe and clean environment during the summer. With these initiatives, the City Council aims not only to maintain urban hygiene but also to foster an environment conducive to enjoying public space.
As the summer season progresses, Santa Coloma is preparing to welcome its residents with reinforced services that ensure harmonious coexistence among all citizens. The actions implemented are an integral part of the municipal commitment to improve the quality of life in every corner of the municipality.
