A bittersweet victory for Barça
The FC Barcelona basketball team achieved a convincing victory over Dreamland Gran Canaria with a score of 91-69, however, the joy of the win was overshadowed by concerns over injuries affecting the team. Will Clyburn, one of the key players, was unable to participate in the match due to a health issue that will require medical treatment and follow-up, keeping him off the court for approximately four weeks.
Aside from Clyburn, Barça also had to cope with the absence of Jan Vesely, who suffered discomfort in his right knee. Additionally, Nikola Kusturica is recovering from a sprain in his right ankle sustained during the junior championship final. The injury list is completed by Tomas Satoransky and Nico Laprovittola, who remain in the infirmary.
Despite these difficulties, Kevin Punter stood out as the top scorer of the match with 23 points, including 15 points in an explosive first quarter. His performance was crucial in establishing a considerable lead over the Canary Islanders. Youssoupha Fall and Tornike Shengelia also significantly contributed to the score with 17 and 14 points respectively.
Under the guidance of Xavi Pascual, Barça displayed solid defence and rebounding control, managing to capture 44 rebounds compared to just 22 from Gran Canaria. This difference was crucial in maintaining dominance throughout the match. With this victory, the azulgranas aim to solidify their position among the top four teams in the league and aspire to reach even higher spots following the recent defeats of Valencia and UCAM Murcia.
For his part, Néstor García found no effective answers to counter the Barcelona offensive. As the match progressed, the score differences widened to 23 points (59-36) after Punter hit his third three-pointer. The comfortable score allowed Pascual to give minutes to less frequent players like Dani González and Sayon Keita.
