A new chapter in the electoral contest of FC Barcelona

The Catalan Sports Tribunal has taken a significant step by admitting the claim presented by Marc Ciria, who seeks to challenge his exclusion from the FC Barcelona elections. This move could have important repercussions for the future of the club and its electoral processes.

Marc Ciria, a pre-candidate who was disqualified due to the annulment of 598 of the 2,884 endorsements he submitted, has expressed his satisfaction with this ruling. Just 90 signatures short of reaching the necessary threshold to compete against figures like Joan Laporta and Víctor Font, Ciria believes his case reflects a broader problem within the club's electoral system.

Ciria has openly criticized the method used to validate the signatures, describing it as “opaque” and “lacking guarantees.” According to him, the ballots were reviewed by club staff without adequate oversight from a central electoral board. This lack of transparency has led to a significant percentage of his endorsements being invalidated without clear justification.

The tribunal has eight days to issue its ruling on this matter. If it decides in favour of Ciria, the possibility of repeating the elections won by Laporta could arise, although Ciria himself has indicated that he would not seek such a measure. “I will not distort the life of the club,” he stated in recent remarks.

Despite his conciliatory stance, Ciria does not rule out taking the case to judicial authorities if he does not receive a favourable response. However, he is currently focused on celebrating what he considers a partial victory: “This is very good news. We knew we were right,” he commented with evident indignation over what occurred during the previous electoral process.

Ciria has also emphasised the urgent need to reform the current procedures to avoid similar situations in the future. The high rate of annulled ballots during this process — a historical record — highlights significant failures in how candidacies are managed within the club.
