Renfe boosts access to the coast with more trains in summer

Reinforcement of the Cercanías service in Catalunya

This summer, Renfe has decided to increase the train offer on the R1 and R2 Cercanías lines in Catalunya, particularly focusing on mobility towards the beaches of Maresme and Baix Llobregat. Aiming to adapt to the growing demand during the summer months, these improvements will come into effect this weekend and will remain until October 1st.

On the R1 line, which connects L'Hospitalet de Llobregat with Maçanet-Massanes via Mataró, seven additional trains in each direction will be added during weekends and holidays. This means that travellers will be able to enjoy a train every ten minutes between Barcelona-Plaça de Catalunya and Mataró from ten until twelve noon. Additionally, in the afternoon, between 17:30 and 19:30, there will also be a similar frequency from Mataró to Barcelona.

Meanwhile, the R2 line will experience a significant increase in its frequencies. Starting from the weekend of June 13 and 14, the Playa de Castelldefels station will see a notable increase with seventeen additional trains during weekends and holidays. Heading south from Barcelona, eight new frequencies will be added between nine and thirteen hours to facilitate access to the coast. In the opposite direction, towards Barcelona, nine new frequencies will be added between sixteen and twenty hours.
