The leader of Vox claims that Catalan identity is in danger due to Islamism. He says this in an interview where he also discusses immigration, the PP, and a possible coalition government.
Catalan identity, according to the leader of Vox, is threatened by Islamism. Santiago Abascal expressed this in an interview with a Catalan newspaper, where he also defended his party's immigration policies.
According to madridactual.es, Abascal insisted that the repatriation of immigrants must be done in an individualized, but sustained manner, and ruled out mass operations by road. According to him, the measure requires full determination and a case-by-case procedure.
Referring to Catalonia, the leader linked the defence of Catalan identity with the fight against what he considers a growing threat:
“But now that Catalan identity is threatened by Islamism. Today we must apply a 155 to the Islamic caliphate”
Regarding Alianza Catalana, Abascal acknowledged that Vox does not share some of its postulates, although it could collaborate in areas such as street security and the defence of Catalan identity against what he describes as a process of migratory invasion.
The leader of Vox also questioned the role of the PP in the upcoming elections. He warned that the party of Alberto Núñez Feijóo might try to weaken Vox so that its influence in a future government is reduced, and accused the votes of descendants of Spaniards residing in Latin America of being fraudulent:
“We are facing an attempt at fraud”
When asked about a coalition with the popular party if they gain a majority, Abascal admitted that the two formations have postponed that debate, although he noted that there are possibilities of agreeing on something to run for the Senate. According to his words, in that case, his priority would not be to reform the Constitution.
