Barcelona approves aid of up to 800 euros for cargo bikes

The City Council of Barcelona is preparing aid of up to 800 euros for cargo bikes and 400 for urban e-bikes. The regulations would come into effect on December 1, 2026, and the first application period would open in 2027.

The regulations governing the aid for purchasing electric bicycles in Barcelona are already being processed. According to the City Council of Barcelona, the text will be definitively approved in November and will come into effect on December 1, 2026, with the expectation that it will be resolved within that timeframe.

All individuals registered in Barcelona, as well as legal entities with their registered office in the city, will be eligible for the aid. The amount varies depending on the type of vehicle: 400 euros for an urban e-bike and 800 euros for a cargo bike, known as a cargobike.

The amount will never exceed 40% of the purchase price.

To receive the subsidy, the bicycle must be new and equipped with a bell, lights, and reflectors. Additionally, the maximum power must be 250W, the motor should only activate while pedalling, and assistance must cut off at 25 kilometres per hour. It is also mandatory to register the bike in the municipal bicycle registry.
