Catalans ate an average of 154 eggs per person in 2025, a figure that exceeds the national average by 5.5%, which stands at 146 units. This is reflected in the data from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA), released on the occasion of World Egg Day and published by interempresas.net.

Per capita consumption grew by 4.86% compared to the previous year, while the average monthly expenditure was 3.20 euros per person.

Catalonia stands out not only as a consumer but also as a producer. The region had 306 farms in 2025 with a population of 3,357,817 hens. Of these, 30.11% were raised in systems alternative to cages.

Catalan production reached 108,763 thousand dozens in 2025, an increase of 4.19% compared to 2024. According to the Interprofessional Organisation of Eggs and Their Products (INPROVO), Catalonia is the autonomous community with the highest number of egg production farms in Spain.

Luz de Santos, director of INPROVO, points out that consumption above the national average reflects the presence of eggs in shopping habits. She also highlights the importance of the sector in maintaining supply and responding to consumer needs.

«Consumption above the national average reflects the presence of eggs in shopping habits,» notes Luz de Santos, director of INPROVO.

Across Spain, egg consumption increased by 5% in volume during the first half of 2026 compared to the same period the previous year, according to the latest report from Worldpanel by Numerator prepared for INPROVO. The study shows an average purchase of 31 eggs per month per household and an average expenditure of 3.31 euros per kilogram.

This data arrives in a context of stable prices and a growing demand for local products. For Catalan consumers, eggs remain one of the staple foods in their shopping basket, with a monthly expenditure of around 3.20 euros per person.
