The president of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa, attacks the PP over the alleged offer of one million euros to Koldo García. He considers it an attack on the rules of democracy.

According to elplural.com, Koldo García has accused the PP of offering him one million euros to pay for his legal defence in exchange for information to overthrow Pedro Sánchez. The president of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa, reacted on the same day this Thursday during his speech at the PSC Council of Mayors.

Illa stated that those who buy testimonies do not only attack the Prime Minister or the Socialist Party, but the rules of democracy. According to him, the alleged offer was made through the PP's lawyer, Alberto Durán, although the PP has not been the only target of criticism from the head of the Catalan Executive.

“One million euros to buy lies and harm Pedro Sánchez and the PSOE when in reality they are harming the rules of democracy”

Illa has used the case as an example of how the truth ultimately prevails. In the same speech, he cited the victory of Lula da Silva over Flávio Bolsonaro in Brazil's presidential elections and the defeat of Republicans in the US midterm elections as lessons from recent international elections.

The Catalan president also criticised that the companies owning digital platforms are not neutral, citing Elon Musk, who allegedly invested 450 million euros to support Republicans in the US campaign. For Illa, citizen participation is the factor that decides elections, not money.

With an eye on the general elections on 29 November, Illa warned that a victory for the PP and Vox would jeopardise pensions, healthcare, and Catalonia's self-government. He pointed out the electoral pact between both formations for the Senate, whereby the Popular Party will not run in Tarragona or Girona.
