The Generalitat sets a 25% service during peak hours for public transport on the general strike day of November 11. Rodalies, metro, tram and buses must cover this period.
The Department of Labour of the Generalitat has published the minimum services for the general strike on November 11, as reported by El Periódico. The resolution requires public transport operators to guarantee 25% of the service during peak hours, while circulation for the rest of the day will depend on the level of participation in the strike.
On Rodalies, trains will have minimum coverage from 6.30 to 9.30 and from 16.30 to 21. Outside of these time slots, the service will be reduced based on how many staff members of the operator join the strike, meaning that in the most extreme scenario, there could be no trains. The same criteria apply to the Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat, the Barcelona metro, the tram and the buses in the capital.
For travellers, the day will be characterised by heavily disrupted transport. Those needing to travel during these hours should expect limited service and it is advisable to check the status of the service before leaving home.
This measure is less demanding than that of the last general strike in 2012, when the minimum coverage during peak hours was 33%. On this occasion, the Generalitat has strengthened the link to Barcelona airport, which will have at least 50% frequency throughout the day.
Other essential services, such as cranes, funeral services or private security, must maintain between 75% and 85% of their staff.
