The president of the Generalitat presents a package of social measures in the general policy debate, including 300 euros for young people's driving licences, while his party keeps the uncertainty of his candidacy for 2027 open.
The president of the Generalitat appeared this Monday in the general policy debate with a managerial profile speech and eyes set on the 2027 regional elections. The session was suspended shortly before 20:00 hours, after the popular leader detailed a total of 55 proposals for the final stretch of the legislature.
Among the most striking announcements is a subsidy of 300 euros for young people to cover the cost of their driving licences, according to Las Provincias. He has also proposed extending all the aid reserved so far for large families to families with two children, a measure that was already suggested by the socialist Ximo Puig in 2023.
The social package includes zero fees for two years for new self-employed workers, an investment of nearly 2.5 billion euros in healthcare, 1,825 concerted places in residences, and a regional local security plan. The president summarised his intention with a phrase:
“The PP project that began in 2023 will continue”.
The meeting was marked by uncertainty regarding the designation of the popular candidate for the Generalitat. At the same time as his speech, the National Executive Board of the PP was meeting, which did not provide any updates on that situation. Llorca, however, presented his proposals in a tone of personal commitment that hints at his willingness to run again as a candidate.
In the final part of his speech, he raised his tone against Compromís, a party he linked to the government of Pedro Sánchez, reproaching them for carrying “the Senyera in one hand and the estelada in the other.” The head of the Consell referred to the leader of the PSPV, Diana Morant, at all times as “the minister,” without mentioning her status as a socialist candidate.
The opposition focused their interventions on the internal situation of the PP. The socialist Muñoz showed a binder that he presented as a dossier on the president, while Baldoví from Compromís reproached him for his dependence on Vox and Feijóo. Both criticized Llorca for his rejection of the central government's proposal for reforming regional financing.
In his reply, the president described that proposal as a “empty box” and reviewed the corruption cases affecting the PSOE. Vox asserted its priority on immigration issues and reminded the PP that agreements between the two parties “must be fulfilled.” The debate, the last of the legislature, leaves on the table a package of measures that the Consell plans to implement in the coming months.
