The Generalitat has completed the renewal of the Valencian public DTT network ahead of the start of UHD broadcasts, scheduled for this Thursday, November 5.

The Valencian public Digital Terrestrial Television network is now ready for Ultra High Definition (UHD) broadcasts. According to AlicanteExtra, the Generalitat has finished the comprehensive renewal of its broadcasting centres, which has been carried out before the channels launch these broadcasts in Spain on Thursday, November 5.

The regional infrastructure has been adapted to the DVB-T2 standard, established by the Ministry for Digital Transformation and Public Function. With this change, the network is prepared for a new phase of digital terrestrial television in the Comunitat Valenciana.

According to the Valencian Government, the new system improves image and sound quality and makes better use of the radio spectrum. It also enables operators to offer UHD content without losing capacity in the digital multiplexes.

The increased efficiency has allowed for a reorganisation of the available capacity and ensured the continuity of broadcasts from the state multiplex RGE2. Additionally, the network will host the new state DTT channel, whose licence was awarded in May and which begins broadcasting on the same Thursday.

The public company Istec, responsible for the work, has intervened in all the transmitters of the network. The installed equipment is state-of-the-art, has greater energy efficiency, and allows for better remote monitoring and management than the previous system.

The network covers 133 centres in the so-called Zone II, which transmit the DTT signal to 170 municipalities and around 210,000 residents. Most of these municipalities are in geographically disadvantaged areas, particularly in the interior of the Comunitat.

The Generalitat assures that the modernisation maintains a high-availability service for the residents of these towns. For those living in the interior, the adaptation means that the public signal will continue to reach with the same coverage, now prepared for UHD.
