The Government plans to tender in October the works for the second phase of the Judicial Forum, valued at around 70 million euros. The first phase, which started in March, is progressing with the execution of the screen walls.

The construction of the Tarragona Judicial Forum is reaching a new milestone. The Department of Justice is set to tender next month in October the works for the second phase, a package of works valued at around 70 million euros, as confirmed by sources from the department to diaridetarragona.com.

This second phase is the central part of the project, as it includes the construction of the building itself. The first phase, underway since last March, has a budget of 20.4 million euros, which represents 22% of the total. The overall budget for the project exceeds 94.5 million euros.

The future complex, covering 39,488 square metres, will be built between the Open Penitentiary Centre (CPO) and the Urban Guard headquarters, in the vicinity of the Joan XXIII Hospital and the Francolí Park. The aim is to unify the nine judicial offices that are currently scattered throughout the city.

The current works focus on the execution of the screen walls, which, according to the Generalitat, will be completed by early December. Following this, the foundation will be executed, and between late February and mid-October 2027, the building structure will be erected.

“This is a project that had three groundbreaking ceremonies. What we want is to lay the last one and improve the service we offer to the public”

This is expressed by the Government delegate in the Camp de Tarragona, Lucía López Cerdán (PSC), who advocates for a justice system that is “of quality, close, and with better accessibility.” The delegate emphasizes the historical significance of a project long advocated by the judicial sector.

The project is the second largest undertaking that the Government has underway in the city, only behind the new Joan XXIII Hospital. By mid-September, 3.67% of the first phase had been executed and certified, which includes preliminary works, excavation, and earthmoving.

The current dispersion of judicial offices, which includes courts, tribunals, and the Civil Registry, generates an annual expense exceeding 1.3 million euros in property rentals on Avinguda Roma (four), Rambla Nova, and Vidal i Barraquer avenue. The completion of the second phase is scheduled for 2029.
