The Port of Málaga has officially welcomed the Legend of the Seas, a massive cruise ship from Royal Caribbean. This vessel is set to redefine luxury travel at sea with its impressive amenities.
The arrival of the Legend of the Seas at the Port of Málaga marks a significant milestone for both the city and the cruise industry. This colossal ship, measuring 364 meters in length and weighing 248,663 tons, is designed to accommodate up to 5,610 passengers alongside a crew of 2,350 professionals. Its inaugural docking today highlights Málaga’s growing importance as a key player in Mediterranean cruising.
The Legend is part of Royal Caribbean’s Icon class and features an array of attractions that make it more than just a mode of transport; it’s essentially a floating city. Among its standout features is Thrill Island, home to Category 6, which boasts the largest water park ever built on water. Guests can enjoy six thrilling slides, an obstacle course, and even zip-lining over the ocean.
For those seeking relaxation, there are seven pools and ten hot tubs scattered across various decks. Unique spaces like The Hideaway, featuring an infinity pool suspended above the sea, offer tranquil escapes for sunbathers. Families will appreciate dedicated areas like Surfside, which includes water play zones and activities tailored for children.
Culinary enthusiasts will find delight in choosing from 28 restaurants, along with numerous bars and lounges that cater to diverse tastes. The onboard entertainment options are equally impressive, featuring theatrical productions such as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, live shows inspired by America’s Got Talent, and breathtaking performances in ice skating arenas.
The ship also prioritizes sustainability; it is powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG) and incorporates advanced systems aimed at reducing emissions as part of Royal Caribbean’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2035.
This inaugural visit not only showcases modern maritime engineering but also emphasizes Málaga’s strategic role in global tourism. The local port authorities celebrated this occasion with a commemorative plaque presentation to the ship’s captain. As part of its Mediterranean itinerary this summer, Legend will operate routes from Barcelona and Rome before heading to Fort Lauderdale for Caribbean voyages.
The departure from Málaga is scheduled for tonight at 10:00 PM, followed by a spectacular fireworks display around 10:20 PM. Passengers can expect an unforgettable four-night journey culminating in Rome after stops at ports including Tarragona and La Spezia.
This event reinforces Málaga’s status as an attractive destination for cruise lines; it marks only the fourth time such a large vessel has docked here. With ticket prices starting at approximately 1,287 euros per person, travelers have access to luxurious accommodations tailored to their preferences.
