The Teixonera football pitch in Horta-Guinardó will undergo significant renovations with a budget exceeding 600,000 euros. This project aims to enhance sports facilities across the city.
The Teixonera football pitch is set for a major transformation as construction begins this week on a project valued at over 600,000 euros. The initiative, spearheaded by the Institut Barcelona Esports (IBE), involves replacing the existing artificial turf with state-of-the-art grass that adheres to European regulations limiting microplastic usage.
This renovation is part of a broader 10 million euro emergency plan aimed at upgrading and maintaining sports facilities throughout Barcelona. The plan was developed in collaboration with ERC and reflects the city’s commitment to modernizing aging infrastructures that have suffered from wear and tear over time.
The scope of work includes dismantling the current turf, removing existing sports equipment and nets, and repairing the underlying base to ensure proper drainage. A new elastic base artificial grass will be installed, complemented by silica sand infill, following strict technical specifications.
Additionally, the project encompasses marking out both eleven-a-side and seven-a-side pitches according to FIFA standards. New goalposts and protective nets will be installed along with a new drainage channel at the eastern end of the field while preserving the existing irrigation system. In total, approximately 5,680 square meters will be renovated.
This upgrade not only aims to restore optimal playing conditions for football but also aligns with IBE’s ongoing efforts over recent years to enhance various local sports facilities. Notable past projects include renovations at several municipal football fields such as those in Vallvidrera and Bon Pastor.
“This project underscores our dedication to providing high-quality sports environments for our community,” said an IBE spokesperson.
The improvements at Teixonera are expected to be completed by late summer 2026. As part of this initiative, residents can look forward to enhanced recreational opportunities in their neighborhood.
For those interested in watching the progress of these renovations or seeking alternative local sporting events during this period, updates will be available on the IBE website as well as through local community boards.
