In a significant operation, the Guardia Civil confiscated 246 counterfeit luxury watches in Castelló d'Empúries, valued at more than 1.5 million euros. Two suspects are under investigation for industrial property crimes.

On August 18, the Guardia Civil conducted a major operation in Castelló d’Empúries, Girona, resulting in the seizure of 246 counterfeit luxury watches. The estimated market value of these items exceeds 1.5 million euros, according to assessments by experts from the affected brands.

The operation was initiated after officers inspected two vehicles—a car and a van—both registered in Spain. Inside these vehicles, they discovered the high-end replicas that were allegedly intended for sale.

The seized watches included well-known brands such as Rolex, Lacoste, and Omega. If genuine, these timepieces would have been valued at approximately 1,557,560 euros. This incident highlights ongoing issues with counterfeit goods that undermine brand integrity and consumer trust.

The counterfeit products were reportedly destined for distribution within urban developments in Empuriabrava, a popular area known for its affluent residents and tourists seeking luxury items.

As part of this investigation, authorities are looking into two individuals aged 43 and 60, who are suspected of committing crimes against industrial property rights. The Guardia Civil has taken all necessary legal actions and submitted case files to the Court of First Instance number 1 in Figueres.

This seizure is part of a broader effort by law enforcement to combat counterfeiting in Spain. In recent years, similar operations have led to significant confiscations across various regions. For instance, back in 2020 alone, authorities seized over 3 million euros worth of fake merchandise nationwide.

The fight against counterfeit goods is crucial not only for protecting intellectual property but also for ensuring consumer safety and maintaining fair market practices. Counterfeit products often lack quality control and can pose risks to consumers unaware of their authenticity.

For those interested in purchasing luxury watches or other high-end items safely, it is advisable to buy from authorized dealers or reputable online platforms that guarantee authenticity. Consumers should remain vigilant about deals that seem too good to be true as they may be indicative of counterfeit products.
