A fire engulfs the Honda warehouse in Santa Perpètua
Last Friday, a large-scale fire broke out in a Honda industrial warehouse located in the Torre del Rector industrial estate in Santa Perpètua de Mogoda, Barcelona. The incident began around 3 PM and quickly escalated into an emergency that mobilised the Bombers de la Generalitat.
The swift action of the fire brigade was crucial in preventing greater tragedies. Up to 32 units were deployed to combat the flames, which were stabilised by around 8:30 PM. During the incident, approximately 150 workers were successfully evacuated, although the fire caused significant damage to the structure.
The exact causes of the fire are still under investigation. The affected warehouse, which spanned about 20,000 square metres, was a storage facility dedicated to the dispatch of spare parts and vehicles, mainly motorcycles. At the time the fire broke out, there were around 80 employees working inside.
The large column of smoke generated by the fire was visible from several nearby points and even forced the confinement of staff from neighbouring companies as a precautionary measure. Local authorities have urged a review of safety protocols in industrial facilities to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Apart from the fortunately limited human impact due to the timely evacuation, the material losses are considerable. The warehouse was completely burnt down and collapsed after the fire, which could represent a significant economic blow for Honda and its operations in the region.
