Transformation of an Industrial Legacy
The emblematic Can Trinxet factory, which for decades was the industrial heart of L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, is about to embark on a new phase. After years of neglect, the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona (AMB) has greenlit an ambitious project that will transform this space into a civic and cultural centre open to the public. With an investment of €2.9 million, construction will begin shortly and is expected to be completed by the summer of next year.
The plan involves the comprehensive rehabilitation of over 2,500 m², where significant architectural elements of the old factory complex, built between 1906 and 1910, will be preserved. The new facility will include a citizen service office and multipurpose spaces designated for community activities. Additionally, an accessible square will be created with landscaped areas that will preserve the century-old plane trees, thus providing a climatic refuge for residents.
The project aims not only to functionally revitalise the area but also to protect its historical value. The Special Plan for the Protection of Architectural Heritage (PEPPA) will ensure the conservation of facades, lobbies, and other characteristic elements that make Can Trinxet a gem of industrial modernism. This approach will allow for the revaluation of local history while adapting to contemporary needs.
The new headquarters of District III will follow the innovative model implemented in other districts, focused on digitalisation and facilitating access to technology for all citizens. This effort aims to close the existing digital divide and promote a closer and more inclusive administration.
As construction progresses, residents can look forward to a renewed space that will not only serve as an administrative point but also as a vibrant place for cultural events and community activities. The transformation of Can Trinxet symbolizes a significant step forward in the urban and social revitalisation of L'Hospitalet.
