A course that unites two worlds
From April 7 to 9, the Ateneu Universitari Sant Pacià in Barcelona will become the epicentre of a fascinating dialogue between spirituality and contemporary art. The Antoni Gaudí Faculty of History, Archaeology and Christian Arts has organised an intensive course titled ‘Spirituality and Contemporary Art’, coordinated by the renowned Rosa Ribas, director of the Centre d’Estudis Avançats Antoni Gaudí.
This event will feature the participation of prominent figures in the artistic and academic fields. The muralist Aryz, known for his innovative approach to urban art, will share his perspective on the intersection between the sacred and the everyday. Alongside him, Jordi Casasas, archivist of the basilica of Santa Maria del Pi, will provide his expertise on cultural heritage conservation.
The first day of the course will begin with a lecture by Ignasi Boada, a professor at the Blanquerna Faculty of Communication. His talk titled ‘The Meaning of Knowledge: Universality and the Horizon of Human Knowledge’ promises to offer a profound reflection on how knowledge can be a pathway to the spiritual.
The second day will feature Lourdes Cirlot, emeritus professor at the University of Barcelona. Her presentation will focus on exploring the spiritual dimensions present in the works of the influential video artist Bill Viola, whose creations have challenged the traditional boundaries of contemporary art.
The course will culminate on April 9 with a dialogue between Jordi Casasas and Aryz, where they will discuss how artistic expressions can serve as vehicles to explore deep spiritual questions. The sessions are scheduled to begin at 19:30 in the Aula Magna of the Conciliar Seminary building.
