A Burst of Colour in Girona
Since last Saturday, the city of Girona has transformed into a true botanical garden thanks to the new edition of Temps de Flors, which will run until May 17. This year, the celebration not only stands out for its floral beauty but also pays tribute to the legacy of architect Antoni Gaudí, commemorating the centenary of his passing.
One of the most iconic points of the event has been the installation on the steps of the cathedral, where an impressive dragon, inspired by the famous design of Park Güell, has been adapted to become a cocollona, a local mythical creature. This work has attracted numerous visitors looking to capture the perfect moment for their social media.
Aside from the dragon, this year floral decorations have been added to the four main bridges crossing the Onyar River. The Sant Feliu bridge joins the already traditional floral displays present on the bridges of Sant Agustí, Peixateries Velles, and d’en Gómez. Additionally, new spaces such as the gardens of Sant Feliu and the fountain of the archaeological promenade have been inaugurated to further enrich the visual experience.
Despite the festive atmosphere, the opening day was not without its setbacks. At six in the evening, unexpected rain began to fall on Girona, reminding everyone that the weather can be unpredictable even during the most anticipated celebrations. Moreover, some displays created by local schools were installed on Calle Nou as part of a protest against the educational conflict with the Generalitat.
Thousands of visitors from not only Girona but also the rest of Catalunya have filled the streets since early in the day. The queues to access iconic spaces such as the Arab baths and the cathedral's underground have been long, reflecting the growing interest in this cultural festivity.
As this week filled with flowers and art progresses, Girona continues to showcase its ability to attract both tourists and locals. With every corner adorned with floral creativity and a strong sense of community, Temps de Flors 2026 promises to be an unforgettable event that celebrates both nature and Catalan cultural heritage.
