A new air for the Porta Ferrada
The emblematic Porta Ferrada music festival, held in Sant Feliu de Guíxols, has taken a significant turn in its 64th edition. Since its management by Barcelona Events Musical, the organization aims to bring the event closer to a broader and more diverse audience. According to Jordi Herreruela, the festival director, the intention is to eliminate the elitist perception that often surrounds coastal festivals.
One of the main innovations is the creation of a free space in the gardens of the local monastery, known as Village Estrella Damm. This place will not only offer concerts by emerging artists but will also serve as a social meeting point during the festival. The idea is to foster a more relaxed and accessible atmosphere for all attendees.
With a budget ranging between 4.5 and 5 million euros, the festival has doubled its investment compared to the previous year. This will allow for a much broader musical offering, with over thirty performances scheduled from 10 July to 19 August. Among the highlighted artists are well-known names such as The Corrs, David Bisbal, Rigoberta Bandini, and many others.
The organization hopes to attract around 60,000 visitors, surpassing the 31,200 tickets sold in the previous edition. This growth is attributed to a varied musical lineup that spans from classical music to pop rock, which promises to attract different audiences.
Aside from the Village Estrella Damm, other venues such as the Espai Port —with a capacity for 2,000 people— and the Guíxols Arena —which will host up to 6,500 attendees— will be the main venues for concerts during July and August. The programming includes notable performances such as a tribute to Marco Polo by the viol player Jordi Savall, as well as presentations by renowned companies like the Antonio Gades Company.
Despite the extensive program already announced, Herreruela has indicated that they are still working on finalizing agreements with some international artists whose presence could further enrich this edition of the festival. The uncertainty generated by global events has also influenced these negotiations.
