A Commitment to Health
The Minister of Territory, Ecological Transition and Housing, Sílvia Paneque, reaffirmed yesterday the firm commitment of the Catalan Government to the construction of the new Josep Trueta hospital. This ambitious project will be located on land south of Girona, between the towns of Girona and Salt, and is designed to be a fundamental pillar in the region's healthcare.
Paneque described the new campus as a “matter of justice” and a “historical debt” that the government owes to the citizens. During an event held at the Auditori de Girona, commemorating the 70th anniversary of the current Trueta hospital, she emphasized that this project is not only necessary but urgent. The Minister assured that during this term, “decisive and definitive steps” will be taken to make this healthcare infrastructure a reality.
The Minister highlighted that there is no other project more relevant in the Catalan territory than this one. The expectation is that the new hospital will be operational by 2031, which represents a significant advance in the modernization of the local healthcare system. This campus will not only improve existing facilities but will also offer new opportunities for healthcare professionals and enhance the quality of service for patients.
Despite the good news about the future hospital, Àngels Morales, manager of the current Trueta, stressed the need for temporary adjustments in some areas while awaiting the completion of the new campus. To address this immediate situation, it is expected that a new surgical block will come into operation by mid-year to improve the operational capabilities of the current hospital.
