The political situation in Ripoll has taken an uncertain turn for the councillors of the Socialist Party of Catalonia (PSC). This Monday, the national leadership of the PSC will meet with the local councillors, who found themselves in the eye of the storm following their recent abstention that facilitated the approval of the budgets proposed by Sílvia Orriols, mayor and leader of Aliança Catalana. This event has sparked intense internal debate regarding the loyalty and strategic decisions of the party.
The councillors, who admitted to having made a “mistake” by not consulting with the federation before their decision, have put their positions at the party's disposal. The abstention of the two councillors allowed the municipal accounts to be approved despite the rejection from other political formations such as Junts and ERC. This decision was justified by the councillors as an attempt to avoid a new media conflict similar to that which occurred the previous year, where a comparable situation led to a failed motion of censure. However, this time their action has been seen as an unintentional support for Orriols and her political agenda.
As the crucial meeting in Girona approaches, tensions are rising within the PSC. The regional federation has expressed its disagreement with decisions made without their prior knowledge. The lack of consultation has led to questioning not only the local political strategy but also the internal cohesion of the party.
