The police operation against Blocus has prevented new disturbances in central Barcelona, according to Mayor Jaume Collboni, who warns that the response to violence will continue.

A large police deployment in central Barcelona has managed to halt the disturbances that occurred last week, according to the City Council. The operation has already identified 1,000 individuals in the Catalan capital and, according to the mayor, Saturday has passed calmly.

"The operation is ongoing and will continue in the coming hours."

Jaume Collboni has attributed this result to the work of prevention, planning, and coordination by the Guardia Urbana and the Mossos d'Esquadra, who have acted together in the centre.

The preventive measures have also affected mobility and urban furniture. The City Council has removed more than 200 containers, cancelled 30 Bicing stations, modified several bus lines, and closed metro access points. These changes will remain in effect as long as the operation lasts.

In recent days, arrests have been made and social media accounts have been closed that, according to the mayor, had fueled the episodes of extreme violence on October 24. Collboni has assured that these behaviours will not go unpunished.

"We will continue to respond with all the necessary force. Actions have consequences, and anyone who thinks that Barcelona is a space to act with impunity is mistaken."

The mayor added that intimidation of citizens, damage to public spaces, and other acts of violence will not be tolerated. While the operation remains active, residents and public transport users must take into account the changes in bus lines and metro access.
