The municipal group of VOX will demand that the Barcelona City Council provide information on the nationality of the 128 detainees from the riots that occurred last Saturday in the city centre.

The municipal group of VOX in the Barcelona City Council will ask the council to report on the origin of the 128 detainees during the riots of last Saturday. The party wants to know how many of those arrested are foreigners and how many have foreign origins.

Its president in the council, Gonzalo de Oro, holds Mayor Jaume Collboni, Deputy Mayor for Security Albert Batlle, and the Generalitat responsible for the lack of security. According to De Oro, the episodes of vandalism, looting, and violence were predictable given the lack of decisive measures against crime.

“What we experienced on Saturday does not surprise us. We have been warning for a long time that if we continue to look the other way and do not act decisively against crime, we would end up living through situations like this. Collboni, Batlle, and the PSC Government have ignored our warnings.”

VOX also wants to know the details of the police operation deployed that day and how the security forces acted. In addition, they ask what measures the administrations plan to implement to prevent similar episodes from happening again in the city.

The party also holds Núria Parlon, the Minister of the Interior, accountable for the management of security and the police response. De Oro questions the public reaction of the political leaders.

“Where were the measures that were supposed to guarantee security? It is not enough to condemn the events after they occur. Collboni, Batlle, and the PSC Government must explain what has failed and assume the corresponding political responsibilities.”
