The airline Level cancels its seasonal route
Level, the low-cost airline, has made the decision to cancel its route between Barcelona and San Francisco, a measure that will take effect from May. This flight, which operated during the peak summer season, had become a popular option for travellers looking to connect with the US West Coast.
According to sources close to the company, this cancellation is not related to the current geopolitical crisis in the Middle East, but rather responds to specific issues in engine supply chains. The airline has chosen to prioritise more established routes due to the widespread shortages affecting the aviation sector. “The cancellation is a response to an adjustment aimed at ensuring more consistent operations,” said representatives from Level.
Passengers who had already booked their tickets to travel to San Francisco this summer have been notified via email about the changes. Level offers two alternatives: a full refund of the ticket price or a voucher to use on another destination within its network. Currently, the airline connects Barcelona with cities such as New York, Boston, and Los Angeles, and has plans to open a new route to Lima in June.
Just three months ago, Level had announced ambitious expansion plans from El Prat airport. The company became an independent entity after completely separating from Iberia, which grants it greater operational autonomy. However, this growth is now threatened by logistical issues and an uncertain airline market.
As international tensions continue to affect global air traffic, companies face additional challenges related to the price and availability of oil. Industry experts have noted that demand for flights to the United States has recently decreased; although this may be part of the usual seasonal cycle.
With United Airlines now the only direct option between Barcelona and San Francisco, travellers must adapt to this new reality. The current situation highlights how external factors can drastically influence business decisions within the aviation sector.
